Blue Black

IMG_2234 IMG_2236 IMG_2238 IMG_2241 IMG_2245 IMG_2251 IMG_2255Comfy, flattering & simple are ways to describe all of my most valued dresses in my wardrobe and this one by Halogen isn’t an exception! I love its simplicity with the asymmetrical ruching, the soft, double-layered fabric and its length that’s appropriate for both a night out downtown and a nice dinner date. Once it gets a little cooler, I’ll pair it with a leather moto jacket for an edgier look.

I took advantage of my employee discount during my last week working at Nordstrom and got an irresistible deal on this dress and super cute and colorful clutch by Topshop x Nordstrom!

If you haven’t heard already, I start working at J.Crew next week and I’m super excited! Most of my closet is either J.Crew or Madewell, so it’s safe to say their a brand I closely identify with. Learning & growing with the company I most adore is a dream for me as I plan to make moves towards a corporate position in NY. In the meantime, come shop with me and get styled for fall!

As I approach my five year anniversary of blogging, I’m working on a total revamp for COJ to celebrate and to commemorate me entering a new phase in my fashion career.

Stay tuned, guys!

Holy Sheath!

Hi guys!

I don’t think it was until after I interned for Tracy that I realized how much I adored her dresses. I’ve got about 5 at this point & it’s all because of how comfortable, stylish, and colorful they are! Her prints are always different and original while the silhouettes tend to be really flattering on me. This print has a twist – an atypical colorway and manipulation for a classic leopard motif.

I’m ‘falling’ for this upcoming season’s trends and staples and I cannot wait to start layering again! I went for a dressy/casual look with this sheath dress pairing it with my denim jacket, gold hoops, and chunky leather heels. I also thought a burgundy lip would hint more towards fall – and that the forest green & burgundy color combo was more interesting than the green with a true red or pink.

How are you falling into the next season?

Mixing and merging weekend casual with professional casual today! Scored this fuchsia linen blazer on sale at my job last week and I love it because it’s so vibrant and light weight for the weather. These über distressed jeans are from Topshop which is where I tend to get a lot of my really trendy items. Whenever I wear jeans that are even a tiny bit distressed, I tend to get comments from older people (like my dad) asking, “So you BOUGHT them with holes in them?” I think it’s so funny how different generations choose to accept and interpret trends.

To pull everything together, I threw on a white v-neck and nude heels. For makeup, I’ve been trying something a little bit different lately. In an attempt to make my eyes look bigger, I swipe some white eyeliner on my bottom water line instead of black. Black eyeliner is for more dramatic looks, but it also makes your eyes look smaller and a bit more closed. Also along the lines of my recent beauty change ups, I’ve worn nude nail polish with tangerine  colored toe polish. I don’t feel like I always have to match my nails and toes, because toe polish lasts so much longer than nail polish and I don’t necessarily want to have the same polish on my hands for weeks and weeks like I have on my toes. Make sense? Maybe not, but that small limitation that girls tend to have always bothered me, haha.

Anywho, I would wear this ‘fit on a date or going out to a casual social outing. What trends are you making your own this summer?

Maxi dresses are my fave thing to throw on in the summer to stay cool and cute! This one is by Vince Camuto (I’m beginning to love his pieces more and more) and I got it for a steal at Nordstrom Rack. I thought the different scaled diagonal stripes added more interest to it than just regular horizontal stripes that are commonly printed on maxis.

What I love about this dress is the fact that it’s double layered but still lightweight – meaning that it keeps me from getting too hot, but it’s very flattering since it doesn’t show every curve, lump and bump, lol! Plus, the hem is higher in the front which is great for us shorter girls that would typically trip over it when not wearing heels or wedges.

Leather Crossbody Bag – J.Crew

Earrings & Necklace – Madewell

Beaded bracelet – Handmade by me

Other Bracelets – Italian souvenirs

IMG_3259IMG_3322IMG_3324Once we got this linen camo tank in at my job I knew I had to get it! Lightweight and trendy, it’s perfect for any summer wardrobe. I paired it with a couple of other currently “in” items: my kimono cardigan, boyfriend jeans and some leather strappy wedges.

My kimono cardigan is super comfy and versatile- I can throw on over a bodycon dress or a t-shirt with distressed shorts, too, for other cute looks. It’s a great layering piece to have especially in the summer when it’s too hot to wear a heavier jacket, but too cold indoors at work to not have on anything covering my arms!

Striped Leopard

IMG_3173IMG_3199 IMG_3195 IMG_3217 IMG_3223IMG_3206IMG_3225IMG_3236 IMG_3229

Took a summertime stroll downtown with my boyfriend in my new favorite tube skirt! This navy & cream striped piece is by Vince Camuto and I paired it with my light wash chambray button up, a faux leopard print belt with a chunky jeweled statement necklace.

I love stripes, but I have to be careful wearing a striped bottom since I’m a pear shape and it could make my lower half look wider. When I do choose to wear stripes, they’re always more narrow and smaller in scale!

This look would be great for a casual luncheon or day date. The key to mixing these different elements (the leopard print, the stripes, chambray and jewels) is keeping the accessories relatively simple. Thinking outside of the box is fun, but you don’t want to go overboard with accents for this kind of look as it might look too busy. I threw on some minimal nude strappy heels to balance out the classiness of the necklace and to dress the look up a bit. For relief from the pain of these heels (lol), I slipped on some brown leather open-toed flats.

Orange Burst

IMG_3020 IMG_3040 IMG_3055 IMG_3061 IMG_3135 IMG_3120 IMG_3140 IMG_3090 IMG_3106IMG_3089You know when there’s a color you don’t often wear or necessarily feel like would look great on you? But then you actually wear it and start getting compliments like, “That’s YOUR color!”? Red-orange is that color for me, and might become one of my signature colors. It just gives off an exciting energy, you know?

Anywho, being more of a “casual” kind of girl, I love when I wear things that can be easily dressed up & down with a simple change in shoes or accessories. I paired this bright boho blouse with dark skinnies and casual heels. I threw on some hoops and a bit of arm candy and I was good to go for a nice day outing!

Blouse, Jeans, and Rings – Madewell

 Earrings – Light Years

Shoes – Franco Sarto

I’m becoming more consistent with wearing eyeshadow (before I knew about eye primer, my shadow used to crease like crazy and I just didn’t want to be bothered with it), and for my everyday look, I really like to stick with neutral and subtle shades. For makeup, I used:

Neutral eyeshadow palette (drugstore brand) for the lids

‘Saddle’ eyeshadow by M.A.C. for the creases

‘Luster Drops’ (highlight) by M.A.C.

‘Spiked’ eyebrow pencil by M.A.C.

‘Breath of Plum’ blush by M.A.C.

‘Chesnut’ lip liner by M.A.C.

‘Bare-ly Legal’ lipstick by Wet n Wild

Hope you all are having a fab Friday!

Birthday Style

I celebrated my 23rd birthday last week with my friends and fam! I’m pretty big on birthdays (it’s a whole month-long fiesta for me), so the weeks prior I was on the hunt for the perfect birthday dress to represent where I’m at in this particular stage in my life!unnamedMe and my snapchats. I had to go down 3 sizes so this dress wouldn’t look like a tent on me!

I had a bohemian look in mind to symbolize the freedom I feel as I transition into the real world. I found one that was perfect (this Kate Moss x Topshop frock found here), but quite frankly I didn’t want to spend that much money on it! Haha, then I randomly came across the dress pictured below while shopping for my sister in Gap and fell in love!unnamed-3unnamed-1

I love this dress because it’s so feminine and charming! Because of its length and silhouette, I felt more “grown up” and womanly. I’ve been getting a lot of “You look like you’re 19!” comments lately for some reason, and on this particular birthday I wanted to feel more like I’m out here in the real world working towards becoming completely independent and reaching my career goals! I usually go to Gap to find good deals on quality, casual denim and other items, but never would I have thought I could find a dress like this there!

I paired this dress with a chunky jeweled J.Crew necklace shown below, a brown leather belt and brown leather heeled sandals by Franco Sarto.95091_EC8333

Flower lattice necklace by J.Crew

I also paired these casual heels with my new high-waisted Hudson jeans, my favorite denim button-up by Madewell, and a racer back tank the next day.

I had a fabulous birthday and I thank all of my readers, friends and fam that celebrated with me and sent well wishes!

What I Wore: 04012014

unnamed-19unnamed-16 unnamed-17 unnamed-18Finally, some consistently warm weather!

Everyone that knows me knows that I love silk. Silk blouses, silk dresses, scarves, etc!  My closet is full of silk or leather items that I’ve collected over time. This Asian-inspired printed silk blouse by Zara is one of my favorites because of its flowy fit and chic aesthetic. I got these shoes brand new for a bargain at my old job. I just thought they were a super cute pop of color that I could even wear with just a white v-neck and cropped skinny jeans!

What I Wore: 03312014

I just purchased my new favorite jacket the other day at Madewell! As a true bargain shopper, I waited a couple months for it to go on sale and it finally did! Army green jackets are on trend right now, but I feel like I’ll be able to wear this for years to come as a wardrobe staple.

When I dress, I like to take one focal point and build around it with other complimentary elements. I kept it really simple with this look, wearing minimal jewelry and strappy sandals. Cat eye sunnies are the best fitting shape for my face, so I grabbed this inexpensive pair at my job. I’m still on the hunt for a really good designer pair to fit my style and complete my every day look!
